The Central Government has extended the validity period of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) certificate of eligibility to life instead of seven. The Education Ministry has issued the order today. Now once you clear the TET, it will be valid for life.

This decision of the Ministry of Education will benefit lakhs of youth who dream of a teacher’s job. The Ministry of Education has also said that in respect of candidates or students whose certificate has completed seven years, the concerned State Government or Union Territory Administration is required to reschedule the validity period of TET or issue a new TET certificate.

This system will be applicable across the country. Let us tell you that till now the certificate of TET pass was valid only for seven years. That is, after doing TET, if a person is not appointed a teacher within seven years, then he had to pass the TET exam again.

Similarly, this process used to come in the way of applying for a new job. Now it is not so, once you pass TET, its certificate will be valid for life. Let us tell you that every year lakhs of candidates appear in the TET examinations conducted by the central government or states.

Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UP-TET) is valid for five years. At the same time, the validity of CTET is for 7 years. The National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) guidelines dated 11 February 2011 states that the state government will conduct TET and the period of validity of TET eligibility certificate will be seven years from the date of passing the examination.

CBSE conducts the CTET exam twice every year. The first exam is conducted in the month of July and second in the month of December. Successful candidates who appear in the paper-1 of CTET are considered eligible for teacher recruitment for class 1 to class 5. Whereas successful candidates appearing in Paper-2 are considered eligible for teacher recruitment for class 6th to 8th.
